Site Reliability Engineer Internship - Jumia (Full Time)

The SRE (Site Reliability Engineer) trainee role is a hybrid systems and software engineering role. SREs are focused specifically on the availability, durability, observability, latency, performance, and scalability/capacity of Jumia services. 

The SRE team uses this combination of software and systems engineering to build and run large scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems.

What you will be doing:

  • Build and run large scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems.
  • Take the lead on reliability, automation, and other issues in Jumia’s technological ecosystem.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution to effectively solve problems and mitigate reliability failures in a component or system.
  • Key contributor in the software development process, maintaining it, and scaling it, whether for our user-facing products or the underlying hardware infrastructure.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree, CET or equivalent in a computer related subject;
  • Enthusiastic and with a collaborative attitude;
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; 
  • Analytical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must be able to deal positively with pressure.
  • Experience in writing code fixes and tools to solve problems
  • Experience or previous project assignments with Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Experience developing thorough testing solutions across testing layers (e.g., unit, functional, integration, stress testing) for your code, using one or more of the following: C, C++, C#, shell, Java, JavaScript or Python 
  • Experience with serialization languages using Yaml, Json or XML 
  • Fluency in English.

Nice to have: 

  • Ability to debug and optimize code and automate tasks. 
  • Understands the concepts of public cloud Infrastructure 
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
  • Knowledgeable in Infrastructure engineering tools such as Ansible 
  • Linux System Administration skills 
  • CI/CD methodologies with Git and Jenkins
